RAM ( Random Acces Memory)

Definition of RAM (random acces memory)we'll often hear about the RAM. RAM (Random Access Memory) is one of the main memory for computers. RAM locations adjacent to the processor. This is important so that data between RAM and the processor can work quickly. RAM serves to hold the landing and data to be processed by the processor. RAM is volatile, meaning data is stored by the RAM is lost when the computer is turned off.
Types of RAM

EDO RAM (Enhanced Data Output RAM)

- Should be installed in pairs- 1 notch (groove at the foot of RAM)- Used on older computers (90s)

RDRAM (Rambus Dynamic RAM)- 232 pin- Use a heat sink (cooling system, typical)- Should be installed in pairs- Used on older computers (1999, 2000, ...)

SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic RAM)
- 168pin- 2 notchspeed: 100MHz, 133MHzMaximum Capacity (per chip): 512MB

DDR RAM (Double Data Rate RAM)- 184 pin- 1 notchspeed: 266MHz (PC2100), 333MHz (PC2700), 400MHz (PC3200)Maximum Capacity (per chip): 1GB (there are chips on the front and rear layers of RAM)

DDR II
- 240 pin- 1 notch (but unlike DDR, shifted a little notch holes)speed: 533MHz (PC4200), 667MHz (PC5300), 800MHz (PC6400)Maximum Capacity (per chip): 2GB

DDR III- 240 pin- 1 notch (but different from the DDR and DDR2, the hole notch more shifting again)speed: 1333MHz (PC10666)

Maximum Capacity (per chip): 4GB* The term SODIMM (Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module) is a RAM for notebook / laptop.
* The term SIMM (Single In-line Memory Module) refers to the old RAM, for example, EDO RAM RAM only has one leg that is active (running). SIMMs have 30 pins or 72 pins. SIMM 30 pin requires four pieces of RAM installed on the motherboard while the SIMM 72 pin requires at least 2 pieces of RAM installed on the motherboard.
* The term DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) refers to the more recent of SIMM RAM, DDR RAM example where both the surface of the RAM modules that are active (functioning). DIMMs have 168 pins (84 x 2) and only requires a piece of RAM just to operate.
* The term DDR (Double Data Rate SDRAM) has characteristics similar to SDRAM, but have 184 pins and the speed is faster than SDRAM.
